Arnica Salve Recipe

How to Make Arnica Salve

Ingredients

  • 1 oz dried organic Arnica montana

  • 7 oz extra virgin olive oil

  • Beeswax

  • Optional: up to 20 drops of a skin-safe essential oil

Directions

  1. Infuse the Arnica
Place 1 oz of dried organic Arnica montana into a clean mason jar. Pour 7 oz of extra virgin olive oil over the herbs, making sure they are completely covered.

  2. Let It Infuse
Seal the jar and place it in a warm, dark place for about 6 weeks. Gently shake the jar every few days.

  3. Strain the Oil
After 6 weeks, strain the arnica from the oil using cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer. Squeeze out as much of the infused oil as possible.

  4. Make the Salve
Place your strained arnica-infused oil into a double boiler.

For every 1 cup of infused oil, add 1/4 cup beeswax.

If you have approximately 7 oz of infused oil, use about 3½ tablespoons of beeswax.

  1. Melt
Heat gently, stirring occasionally, until the beeswax is completely melted.

  2. Add Essential Oil — Optional
Remove from the heat. If desired, stir in up to 20 drops of a skin-safe essential oil.

  3. Pour and Cool
Pour the warm salve into clean, dry jars. Leave uncovered until completely cool and firm, then add the lids.

How to Use

Massage a small amount onto the skin as needed for minor bumps, bruises, strains, sprains, or sore and tired muscles.

Caution

For external use only. Do not use on broken skin, cuts, or open wounds. Avoid use if you are sensitive to plants in the daisy family. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Keep out of reach of children.
